Predicted Rapid Take-Up For New Push to Talk Solution on Intermec CN3 Handheld Computers Creates Opportunity for Sales and Integration Partners
The announcement today that Intermec (NYSE: IN) and Mobile Tornado plc (AIM:MBT) have formed an exclusive pan-EMEA partnership to provide Push To Talk (PTT) over cellular services on Intermec rugged CN3 handheld computers is forecast to offer channel partners an additional high-margin recurring revenue stream.
Under this new agreement, low cost cellular based instant communications becomes available to organisations looking to dramatically enhance the productivity and efficiency of their mobile workers. This is achieved through the PTT feature on the Intermec CN3 which allows a user to urgently communicate with a supervisor to answer a customer query in the field and further empowers the employee to resolve customer disputes at the doorstep through immediate dialogue with their head office.
The Mobile Tornado instant communications application is built on a patented IPRS communications platform. This combined with a reliable infrastructure and 24x7 support allows partners the opportunity to offer new revenue generating services to existing or potential customers using, or considering deploying, the market-leading Intermec small, rugged CN3 handheld computer.
As well as being able to put forward innovative and proven technology that answers a rapidly growing market need, other factors that make the CN3 with PTT such an attractive proposition for partners is the speed to market possible – partners can be confidently selling the Intermec CN3 with PTT within weeks with little or no training required. Additionally with the managed service model used by Intermec and Mobile Tornado, the sales barrier is reduced as there are no upfront or capital costs and all billing is based on per-user per-month with no additional charge for PTT airtime usage. A further feature is the self-service partner portal with provisioning and other value added service that simplifies and automates the provisioning process.
Ian George, EMEA Channel Director for Intermec said: “This instant communications feature will cement the CN3’s position as the single terminal device that mobile workers will want to carry. It is also an equally attractive proposition for our Intermec partner community, as it gives them a rich and ongoing new revenue stream, improved margins plus it significantly increases the ROI for the end user customer.”
David Parry, VP Worldwide Sales, at Mobile Tornado said: “This will be attractive to the channel as it is simple for a partner to add new subscribers through the PTT web interface, which in turn grows the installed base. Partners can then charge additional provisioning and services fees per month per subscriber resulting in a constantly growing installed base that generates a high-margin recurring revenue stream”.
